March 9, 2022, Santa Rosa - Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) Music Department will present a jazz concert by the Bennett Friedman Quartet on Thursday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Newman Auditorium on their Santa Rosa campus. The concert will feature pianist Aaron Garner, bassist Peter Barshay, and drummer Deszon Claiborne.
General admission to the event is $15, $10 for students and seniors. There is currently no charge for parking in the campus lots. Proceeds from the concert benefit the SRJC Foundation Jazz Studies Fund.
Pianist Aaron Garner teaches jazz improvisation, theory and piano at San Joaquin Delta College. He has performed with James Moody, Eddie Harris, Oscar Brown Jr., and the Woody Herman Band.\
Peter Barshay has been featured on bass with Milt Jackson, Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson and other jazz greats. He produced Pit of Fashion, an album that showcases his compositions.
Drummer Deszon Claiborne has been featured with Les McCann, Dr. Lonnie Smith, John Handy, and Donald Harrison and singers Boz Scaggs, Angela Bofill and Taj Mahal.
Saxophonist Bennett Friedman has performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Stanford Jazz Workshop, the San Jose Jazz Festival, the Healdsburg Jazz Festival, the Monterey Bay Blues Festival, and the Russian River Jazz Festival. He has been featured as a soloist with Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Natalie Cole, and Marvin Gaye. Friedman has taught Jazz Studies at SRJC since 1977. He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant for jazz composition.
