June 12, 2019, Santa Rosa, CA—Shortly after receiving four medals at the 2019 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) Shone Farm Winery launched a revamped wine club to provide students with real-world learning opportunities in the direct-to-consumer sales channel. The goal is to provide students with valuable experience utilizing wine club software, planning and managing winery events, and employing effective wine marketing techniques.
“We are responding to an overwhelming industry demand for a trained workforce familiar with wine club management, tasting room operations, and other aspects of DTC sales, fueling growth in the premium wine segment in Sonoma County,” said Dr. Kevin Sea, professor, and coordinator of the SRJC Wine Studies Program.
“We are thrilled to leverage increased consumer demand for Shone Farm wine into a learning opportunity for our students, while simultaneously providing the Sonoma County wine industry with an educated, trained, and job-ready workforce,” said Dean of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Culinary Arts Benjamin Goldstein.
The award-winning Shone Farm wines are produced by consulting winemaker Mark Stupich (formerly of Kenwood Vineyards), with assistance from students in the program. These wines are made from the same high-quality, estate-farmed Russian River Valley grapes sold to premium wineries throughout Sonoma County. All proceeds benefit the SRJC Wine Studies Program.
Shone Farm Winery is a premium commercial winery and educational facility in the heart of the Russian River Valley American Viticultural Area. Established in 2008 by visionary educators and Sonoma County wine industry pioneers, Shone Farm Winery is one of only three bonded wineries operating in the California community college system.
