SRJC Theatre Arts to hold inaugural show in newly renovated Burbank Auditorium

June 24, 2019, Santa Rosa, CA—The Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) Theatre Arts department will hold its inaugural theatrical performance of “The Sound of Music” in the newly renovated Burbank Auditorium in November 2019.
The renovations of this 80-year-old building will provide improved sight lines, ADA access, and back-of-house production space updates and state-of-the-art lighting and audio-visual equipment that meets contemporary industry standards. A new Burbank Studio Theatre was also constructed as part of the project, which will facilitate a wider range of performance opportunities, including more experimental work. The $28 million renovation is funded by the Measure H bond, passed by voters in 2014.
“We are thrilled to begin making theatre in the beautifully remodeled Burbank Auditorium and in our first-ever studio theatre! Working in a state-of-the-art facility with upgraded technology, new instructional labs and dramatic improvements in ADA accessibility will allow our students to thrive as they prepare for transfer or to begin work in professional theatre,” Theatre Arts Department Chair/Artistic Director Leslie McCauley said. “Audiences are going to love the excellent sight lines, wider and comfortable seats with more legroom, improved acoustics, and bigger bathrooms.”
SRJC President Frank Chong said that the performance will highlight the many benefits of the renovations to the auditorium. “Our shows have always been high-quality productions, but I believe that with the new technology and design, audiences will be absolutely amazed,” he said.
